DMP Key Texts

Sonnet by Malcom Guite Website: https://malcolmguite.wordpress.com/2017/04/15/holy-saturday-everything-is-still/ Here at the centre everything is still Before the stir and movement of our grief Which bears it’s pain with rhythm, ritual, Beautiful useless gestures of relief. So they anoint the skin that cannot feel Soothing his ruined flesh with tender care, Kissing the wounds they know they cannot heal, With incense scenting only empty air. He blesses every love that weeps and grieves And makes our grief the pangs of a new birth. The love that’s poured in silence at old graves Renewing flowers, tending the bare earth, Is never lost. In him all love is found And sown with him, a seed in the rich ground. DMP Pitch

Re-watching the interview with my brother, I feel like he had a lot of cool hand motions/gestures that would be fun to explore and use in our DMP. For example, when I asked him how his relationships influenced the experience or how the experience influenced the relationships, he did a cool hand motion to show a feedback loop (starting at 2:10)--I'm learning that relationships seem to tether most of us in these limbo experiences, so using that hand motion to illustrate the way our relationships play a part in limbo experiences would be really fun. Additionally, he did a hand motion to show how the limbo might have seemed like it ended at one point, but really continued after that point (starting at 3:44), and the complexity and reflection with that hand motion also feels really powerful to me.  Another way I think we could use this interview is to pull some quotes about relationships and how people and connection help us in limbo experiences. Similarly, his advice gave me a lot of h...

DMP Interview

Interview Video Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bg6Y4n9H7fwWPSvwy7sMRobN2mAZ6uok/view?usp=sharing The Interviewee: James Larsen James is my brother. He's 21 years old, lives in Provo, and is studying applied math at BYU. He served his mission in Montreal, Canada, speaking Chinese and French. Interview Questions (in the order I asked them): - Can you tell me about a Holy Saturday or 'limbo' experience in your life? - What tethered you during this time of limbo? - How did your relationships influence this experience? How did this experience influence your relationships? * - Do you think the waiting period has ended? - How have you changed because of this experience? - Are there any moments/places/objects tied to this experience (any holy grounds/experience)? When/where was this experience beautiful? - How did you find joy? - How would you define holy Saturdays/limbo? Do you have any advice for people who feel like they are in 'limbo?'

DMP Theme, Topic, or Guiding Question

Our Question(s): How can we deal with being in limbo? How can we honor the holy Saturdays in our lives? Where/when is limbo beautiful? What tethers us in our limbo?  250-word Statement: As we told our stories, we felt like a lot of them tied back to the idea of being stuck in-between–being in “limbo.” We also addressed a lot of big transitions, locations, or relationships in which we find ourselves in limbo: war, moving, growing up, feeling helpless, seeking balance. In exploring this idea of “limbo,” we want to focus on the concept of ‘Holy Saturdays” in our lives. The crucifixion happened on Good Friday, the Resurrection came on Easter Sunday. No one knows what’s going to happen on Saturday. The worst has happened and the rest is yet to come--true despair/impossible hope. So how can we honor the holy Saturdays in our lives? What tethers us in limbo, and how can we make the most of the liminal space that is this life?
